You will need to disconnect basically all the connections in that area, fuel pressure sensor, MAP sensor, EGR position sensor, glow plug power bar, all 4 injectors, some others I can't recall off the top of my head.
The best way to tell is monitor your oil dipstick, if its dropping considerably between normal oil change intervals then the engine is consuming oil.
Standard should be 427psi, minimum is 384psi, anywhere within this range is considered acceptable, also ensure all the compressions are within 10% of each other across the 4 cylinders.
If it's just a light blue smoke that clears up and never returns once the engine is warm valve seals are usually the culprit.
